AMH Bahrain and CMC Vellore in Key Collaboration
Two 120-year-old institutions to better medical services in Bahrain
A new collaboration announced between the Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMC) of Vellore in India and the American Mission Hospital (AMH), Bahrain will bring world class medical and surgical expertise to Bahrain.
According to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed recently by the two institutions, this collaboration will enhance the knowledge and expertise of AMH’s physicians and surgeons, improve the skills of its nursing staff, and enhance staff-training on latest advances in specialized clinical services. They include, among many others, EEG, Echocardiography, ORs, and ICUs.
Signed by the Corporate CEO of AMH Bahrain Dr George Cheriyan, and by the Director of CMC Vellore Dr Vikram Mathews, this MoU also aims to start new hospital sub-specialties and improve the quality of medical research.
The doctors from CMC Vellore will come to Bahrain on sabbaticals offering their expertise in treating Bahrain’s patients,” said Dr Cheriyan. “And our doctors visiting CMC Vellore will also get an enhanced understanding of diseases, which will ultimately improve patient outcomes here”.
Both organizations share the same 120-year heritage, as they were started around the same time, by the mission boards of the same Reformed Church in America (RCA).
While CMC Vellore in India was founded in 1900, by the American missionary, Dr Ida S. Scudder, AMH Bahrain was founded in 1903 also by another American Missionary, Dr Samuel Zwemer.
In 2024, CMC Vellore was ranked as India’s No. 1 medical facility by Outlook ICARE Survey of medical colleges and hospitals. It was also ranked at No. 3 by NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) – Medical, and by India Today (Medical) surveys, and at No.4 by the Newsweek-Statista survey of World’s Best Hospitals (India).
